a handcrafted brand world for a flute company with nearly 40 years of history.

a handmade world for a handmade sound.
High Spirits came to me with almost 40 years of history, a loyal community, and instruments that already carried a deep emotional pull. The company was respected, the flutes were beautiful, and the story was real.
The opportunity was to help the online experience feel closer to the physical one. When someone holds one of these flutes, they feel the wood, the warmth, the breath, the hand, and the invitation to play. The website needed to carry more of that feeling before someone ever heard a note.
I led the full brand and website evolution, including strategy, creative direction, identity, illustration, ecommerce UX, Shopify structure, Framer development, product storytelling, launch support, and handoff.

the website needed to feel less like a catalog and more like a guide.

strategy before the first mark.
Our journey started with obsessive listening, like it always does. I visited High Spirits in Patagonia, Arizona, spent time in the shop, saw the wood, the tools, the flutes in progress, and the landscape around it all. That visit shaped everything.
The strategy centered on a simple truth: most people buying these flutes are being invited into something. They may be musicians, beginners, teachers, collectors, meditators, or people who simply feel called to the sound. The brand needed to welcome all of them without becoming too technical, too mystical, or too generic.
From there, we built the foundation: positioning, product structure, customer journey, voice, visual direction, ecommerce priorities, and a clearer way to help people find the right flute.

hundreds of products, one clearer path.
A large part of this project lived underneath the surface.
High Spirits has a deep product catalog with different flute families, keys, woods, voices, tunings, frequencies, sizes, accessories, music, and educational content. To make the website easier to use, the product system had to become clearer first.
I helped organize the Shopify structure with product specs, metafields, related products, sound samples, reviews, voice, wood species, density, experience level, tuning, and product family logic. Those details became the foundation for the Framer site, giving customers a more useful way to understand each instrument.
The result is a shopping experience that helps people compare, listen, learn, and choose with more confidence.
